Steve Brecher won the 2009 World Poker Tour (WPT) Bay 101 Shooting Star tournament, and has banked over $1.7 million in career tournament earnings. He has cashed in over a dozen WPT and four World Series of Poker events.
Steve started playing poker in 1966. He played No-Limit Ace-to-Five Lowball with a Joker in the deck at the Cameo Club in California. He discovered Texas Hold ‘em in 1993 and in the mid 1990’s he started playing the live tournament circuit.
Steve experienced his first success at the 1999 WSOP, placing 8th in the $2.5K No-Limit Hold 'em event for $15K. In 2004 he finished 6th at the WPT $25K No Limit Championship for over $232K. At the 2005 United States Poker Championship in Atlantic City he won over 218K for 3rd place in the 2005 $9.7K No Limit Hold ‘em event.
Steve’s most notable tournament finish was at the 2009 WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star tournament. He beat a field of over 300 players to take 1st place, earning his first WPT Championship title and over $1 million in prize money. The final table proved to be the longest in WPT history, with a record 319 hands played.
